Step 6 Paradox

The sixth step suggests that we were entirely ready to have God remove all of our character defects. We pinpointed these handicaps when we took step 5 with someone we trust. We heavily emphasize the spiritual principle of willingness in this step. If we find that if we are not entirely willing, we simply pray for willingness.

In this step, we learn to trust God with the outcome. The paradox is that we must fully admit that we have defects of character, but then step back and do nothing about them until we are entirely ready to allow God to do the job. We begin to learn to “let go and let God.”
