Awareness
Awareness is the spiritual principle behind step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the Power to carry that out.
We are speaking of more than simple awareness here. What we are really referring to is God-Consciousness.
We don't want to be shy or vague about this matter of Prayer. We have definite examples.
We ask God to direct our thinking. We check our motives. We ask God for inspiration. We relax and take it easy and we pause when agitated. We pray for our perceived enemies, that they may have everything we would want for ourselves. We may ask ourselves if others will be helped. We are quick to see where religious people are right and make use of what they have to offer. Throughout the day we asked for the right thought or action, reminding ourselves that we are no longer running the show. We say many times to our Creator each day, Thy will not mine be done.
We conclude our day with a constructive review. We ask if we have been resentful, selfish, dishonest, or afraid. Have we been keeping a secret that we need to discuss with someone? We avoid morbid self-reflection and ask if our motives were pure, if we were seeing what we could contribute to life rather than merely what we could gather for ourselves. We can thank God for the opportunity to Live and Serve and Love in his Everlasting Kingdom.
