The Disease of Addiction/The Solution of God
What makes us addicts is the disease of addiction - not the drugs, not our behavior, but our disease. There is something within us that makes us unable to control our use of drugs. This same “something” also makes us prone to obsession and compulsion in other areas of our lives. When we become trapped in obsessive, compulsive, self-centered routines our disease is active. These endless loops lead nowhere but to physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional decay.
Our addiction can manifest itself in various ways. We can become obsessed in a multitude of ways with people, places, things and ideas. This can get in the way of our relationship with God and other people. It can affect us mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally.
We must recognize and admit that these are problems for us. Then we must come to a belief that a power greater than ourselves can help us if we are honest, willing and open-minded enough. WE MUST BE WILLING TO EMBRACE A NEW WAY OF LIVING IN WHICH GOD IS THE NUCLEUS OF OUR EXISTENCE. Our egos must die enough that we can come out of self-reliance and become God reliant. We learn to depend on infinite God rather than our finite selves.
