Step 3 Action
Step 3 is an action step. Oftentimes in recovery meetings I hear things about step 3 (“made a decision to turn our will in our lives over to the care of God.”) being only a decision. That is a half truth. It is a decision followed by a prayer that I believe should be executed on one's knees (posture of the heart). “Father I offer myself to you, to build with and do with as you please. Relieve me of the bondage of my selfishness so that I can better do your will. Remove any obstacles that victory over them will show others your power, love, and your way of life. I am committed to your will.” This is clearly the ultimate act of the spiritual principle Willingness, and the action is utter Surrender.
At this point we feel a certain nearness to our creator. Being all powerful he provides what is needed for us when we remain close to him and perform his work well. We lose fear and anxiety of the past and the future. We are reborn into the moment, much like Jesus explained to Nicodemus. We do not know where the wind comes from or where it is going but we certainly experience it in the here and now.
