Frank Buchanan Starts the Oxford Group
Frank Buchman was a Lutheran minister who was running a young men's home in Pennsylvania. One day Frank had a meeting with his board of directors. The board said to him, ”Frank you're spending too much on food for these fellas. Could you cut it back?” Frank’s ego was hurt. He was indignant and felt insulted by this request. He quit his job and because his parents were wealthy he went to travel England. What he learned in England is that his anger at his board was blocking him from relationship with God. He began the process of writing amends letters to all of the people that he felt had wronged him. He found that his anger had left him and his relationship with God was restored. This would be the miracle that inspired Frank Buchman to start the Oxford Group which inspired the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
