Our Liquor was but a Symptom…

I believe that at the center of every untreated addicts core is a void. We tried to fill this hole with anything and everything because this emptiness in the soul is painful. For a while we found temporary relief from the spiritual malady through our addictions. This created the illusion that we had found a real solution. I believe the truth is that this void is created by a ravenous hunger for unity with God. As we attempt to fill this God-size hole in our hearts with the wrong thing we somehow managed to block ourselves further from the loving spirit of the universe which is Christ. One of the things that the 12 steps helps us with is removing and discarding the things which have been blocking us. In order to recover we must learn to trust God, clean house, and help others.
