Integrity
Our sins die in the light. INTEGRITY is the spiritual principle of step 5: Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
In step four we discovered defects in our character. We think we have done pretty well admitting these to ourselves. We find that in actual practice, a solitary self-appraisal is insufficient. We are prepared to take our written inventory before our Creator and another human being.
We will be able to see ourselves from the vantage point of the Creator and others. This will be a paradigm shift of perspective, perception, and context. We experience New dimensions of our spiritual existence. We learn that our darkest deepest secrets die in the light. We see that our dilemmas are not so unique or uncommon. We learn of empathy, and we learn of repentance, and how to change our thinking and behavior to be positive and helpful to ourselves, others, and society as a whole. We feel the weight of the past lifted from our shoulders and we are able to forge forward into a position of willingness and humility.
