Powerless

Step ONE stated that we admitted we were POWERLESS over addiction - that our lives had become unmanageable. Powerless means we have lost freedom of CHOICE and AMOUNT. Our freedom of choice was contingent on our spiritual maintenance program. Once our spiritual condition was compromised we could lose our freedom of choice to use or drink. Once we picked up a drug or a drink we would be rendered powerless over the amount that we would use. This makes the spiritual program of action vital to our recovery and sustained freedom from active substance abuse disorder.
